Fingerprint identification of people is a biometric system distinct from the site's separate vehicle/property fingerprinting category.
Illinois State Police says its Bureau of Identification maintains records relating to more than five million fingerprint files and uses an advanced Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) to help identify individuals and potential suspects.
SYSTEM ROLE
Identification, criminal history, and fingerprint-based checks.
ISP's Bureau of Identification collects, maintains, and disseminates criminal-history information and processes fingerprint-based inquiries. Illinois also uses electronic Live Scan submissions for employment, licensing and other authorized background-check purposes.
TERMINOLOGY
Human biometrics and vehicle attributes are separate categories.
Vehicle/property fingerprinting
Searchable combinations of plate, make, model, color, distinguishing characteristics and similar property attributes. This is not latent-print analysis.
