DOCUMENTED

Body-worn cameras

CPD maintains a current department-wide body-worn-camera policy

CPD Special Order S03-14, current in 2026, requires members assigned a body-worn camera to wear and use it under department policy and state law. CPD stores BWC digital evidence in Evidence.com and retains recordings according to the department retention schedule and Illinois law.

DOCUMENTED

Automated license plate readers

CPD maintains an Automated License Plate Reader system directive

CPD’s current directives index includes Special Order S03-20, Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) Systems. NoRec treats this as direct evidence of an operational ALPR program while leaving current device count, vendor mix, locations, retention, and sharing configuration for a dedicated records pass.

DOCUMENTED

Police observation cameras

CPD continues to operate Police Observation Device cameras

Current Police District Council records document CPD Police Observation Devices (PODs), including a POD installed at Foster and Pulaski in September 2025. CPD materials also identify POD footage as evidence retrievable through department systems. This establishes continued operation but is not a complete citywide POD inventory.

PUBLIC RECORDS · FOIA

Records and official sources.

Primary government records are preferred. Where practical, NoRec keeps a local archival copy alongside the official source so citations remain auditable if a government URL later changes.
